All, thou gentle one, lies embraced in thy kingdom; the graybeard
Back to the days of his youth, childish and child-like, returns. — The Circle Of Nature by Friedrich von Schiller
I love digging in the dirt, it’s one of the times I feel completely alive. Another of my great joys is being able to go out into the garden and pick my dinner, but it’s not all about rows of veggies. I also like for the landscape around my home to provide beauty and sanctuary for me, my family and our guests (human and others). For me part of creating that environment is to incorporate art into my landscape.
My husband and I have been looking for a Green Man for our garden for years, but never found one that resonated with us (they either felt too severe or too jolly). The minute we saw this fellow though we knew we’d finally found our man — he’s got a timeless quality about him; a man for all seasons. I have to say the picture doesn’t do him justice, in person he has leaves and vines etched into his hair and beard. He also happens to remind me of a dear friend who I don’t get to visit nearly often enough. Right now our man is in his temporary home sitting out in the dappled shade, among the flowers, listening to the birds sing and watching over my newly planted herbs and vegetables.
On a lighter note I found this Witch Cowboy Boot Barbed Wire Birdhouse With Whisk Broom by Dan Towell and just couldn’t resist – it’s just so quirky and just perfect for a Texas living witch and her garden.
As for this little fellow I found him at Big Lots of all places and he and the plants just set the perfect tone at our back door.
I hope you had a blessed Earth Day.
